free 3 credit reports – score

get information on credit bureaus

There is this property for rent that i am interested in. The thing is ALL they want to see is my credit report?

Taashi-Its a BOY due 3/9/10 asked:

The deal seems too good to be true but anyways, they want me to bring the report when i go for the viewing and they’ve also emailed me a site where i could get the credit report for free. My question is… is it safe? I mean is it safe to get my credit report from a site they’ve sent? ALSO is it true that even viewing your own credit report spoils your credit? I know this q sounds silly but I am new at this and this rental is just awesome! The lease flexible, 3/6/12 months and NO security fee only the first months rent. They said to bring the report to the viewing with the application for rent and DO NOT Email any papers to them Sooo the question is… does it look shady to you?

you can get your credit reports for free once a year from annualcreditreport.com. it’s safe to get your credit report from there. (the other site with tv commercials featuring the guy in the rock band is not actually free, despite the name.)
and it does not damage your credit for you to check your own credit report. (if you apply for a lot of credit cards or loans and a lot of banks check your credit at once, that can hurt your credit.)

Basically they want to see that your credit limit doesn’t exceed your income. They want to be sure you have made timely payments etc. They want to know that you will pay rent. You can check the bbb.gov site (I think that’s what it is. Better Business Bureau to see if the site they sent you is legit. I have been faced with truly beautiful options but the landlords are horrible! Tread cautiously, but be grateful for the deal!
